Löhnert provides the reader with an in-depth analysis of the Sumerian Balag lamentation song "utu-gen e-ta" "Come out like the sun" comprising transliteration and translation of all fragments hitherto available and a line-by-line commentary. Attached is a likewise comprehensive edition of the song "zi-bu-u zi-bu-u" "Arise! Arise!", which as 69 verses in common with the much bette documented "utu-gen e-ta". The study is supplemented by an introduction of Sumerian lamentation songs composed in Emesal from the Old Babylian period.
